Best Supplements for Histamine Intolerance

4 more items in Best Supplements for Histamine IntoleranceLet's Outsmart Histamine! Does it seem like every time you have a glass of wine and a cheese appetizer, you get a headache or even a migraine a few hours later? Or, you break out in an unexplained rash. You might have histamine intolerance. Both cheese and wine, especially red wine, are high in histamine, a chemical produced during the fermentation process of making wine and cheese. You are probably more familiar with histamine, a chemical released by the body during allergic reactions like sneezing, watery eyes, and skin rashes. That is why you reach for antihistamine medications like Zyrtec, Claritin, or maybe Benadryl. Histamine levels can reach toxic levels from consuming foods high in histamine or from what your body produces, not being adequately broken down, leading to an excess of histamine in your body. Resolving histamine intolerance can be challenging. Sure, you can take antihistamines like Zyrtec, but they may not work for some of you. For those of you with genetic variants in the HNMT and MTHFR genes, antihistamines will most likely not work. While doing your detective work to determine the underlying cause, you can help support your body's ability to degrade and eliminate excessive histamine with these dietary supplements. Histamine Digest— This excellent supplement contains the number one enzyme, DAO, that breaks down histamine and a powerful antioxidant known as catalase. During the breakdown of histamine, you may experience oxidative stress and inflammation; catalase and vitamin C help to degrade histamine safely without oxidative stress or histamine release. Histaeze - Your natural antihistamine! If you struggle with allergies and histamine intolerance, start with a hefty dose as noted, then taper off as you become more tolerant of foods rich in histamine. Caution is advised for those with a reduced COMT gene, as this may cause anxiety; if it does, then reduce dosage. If you are unsure if you have a slow COMT gene, check out my Histamine Genomic programs and my COMT Gene Supplement Guide attached to this plan for details about the COMT gene and it's impact on histamine intolerance as well as what supplements may make your histamine intolerance symptoms worse. TriButyrin 350 represents a new approach to gut health and immune function. As a postbiotic, it modulates intestinal flora and promotes butyrate production, the major regulator of gut inflammation, the number one cause of leaky gut and histamine release. Includes choline for better absorption. PaleoFiber RS contains resistant starch, which helps feed the gut microbiota and increase short-chain fatty acids, especially butyrate, which helps reduce inflammation in the gut and reduce histamine release. Bio-100: This low-dosage B-vitamin complex is for those with gene variants in methylation or a reduced HNMT gene. The HNMT gene depends on balanced methylation, which requires B vitamins, especially vitamins B2, B12, and folate. This B vitamin is unique in that it also contains catalase, which reduces oxidative stress. See my blog on the Best Natural Histamine Antihistamines for Histamine Intolerance. Get started on your journey to resolve histamine intolerance today. The first step is to journal your food and symptoms while staying on a low-histamine diet for 30 days to see if you are histamine intolerant; download my Histamine Food Journal . HB Buckwheat Sprout Powder resource 1While diving into plant-based bioactives, I discovered Big Bold Himalayan Tartary Buckwheat Sprout Powder . It’s made from a special type of sprouted buckwheat that supports immune balance and gut health. Why it's a superfood: ✔️ Rich in immune-boosting phytonutrients ✔️ Plant-based protein + prebiotic fiber ✔️ Great source of magnesium, zinc, and B vitamins ✔️ Loaded with rutin—a powerful antioxidant and natural anti-histamine! What to make with it? My go-to: Kale + Arugula Pesto —without the cheese, and instead I used HTB Sprout Powder “Parmesan” Topping. I was skeptical (not a fan of nutritional yeast), but the flavor blew me away. Instead of parmesan cheese, this version uses macadamia nuts —a creamy, low-histamine alternative. ✨ Tip: Avoid subbing other nuts like pecans as they are not high enough in fat to be similar to “parmesan cheese”.

Can Fish Oil Help With Histamine Issues? Did you know that fish oil might help your body handle histamine better? Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish, are powerful nutrients that support your immune system and help lower inflammation. But if you’re sensitive to histamine, eating fish can be tricky. Cold-water fish like salmon and sardines are packed with omega-3s. However, fish like tuna can easily form histamine if it’s not super fresh. That’s why many people following a low-histamine diet avoid fish—especially if they live far from the coast and can’t get fresh options. On top of that, some people have a genetic variant that makes it harder for their bodies to turn omega-3s into the anti-inflammatory compounds needed to manage histamine levels. If you’re dealing with skin rashes, autoimmune flares, or food sensitivities, this could be part of the puzzle. That’s why I often recommend adding an omega-3 supplement to your daily routine. It’s an easy, effective way to make sure your body has what it needs to: ✅ Manage inflammation ✅ Balance hormones ✅ Improve skin health ✅ Support your immune system A budget-friendly option I love is Dutch Harbor Omega Maintain Liquid —simple and cost-effective. If your focus is on healthier skin and protecting your eyes as you age, I highly recommend Skin and Eye Health by Big Bold Health . 7 more items in Best Fiber for Healthy Gut & Histamine IntoleranceFiber supplements are a great way to support gut health, especially if you have concerns like histamine intolerance or want to improve your gut microbiota (the good bacteria in your gut). Let’s look at four types of fiber that can help: Resistant Starch : This type of fiber isn’t digested in the stomach, so it travels to the intestines, where it feeds healthy bacteria. It can also help reduce histamine levels, which is great if you are sensitive to histamine-rich foods. PHGG (Partially Hydrolyzed Guar Gum) : This is one of the best options for people with FODMAP sensitivities. It’s gentle on the gut, helps support healthy bacteria, and can improve overall digestion without causing gas or bloating. Pectin : Found in fruits like apples and citrus, pectin is known for feeding good gut bacteria. It’s also linked to reducing inflammation, which may help if you’re dealing with histamine issues. Psyllium : Psyllium helps with regular bowel movements and supports gut bacteria. It’s a great all-around fiber, but drink plenty of water when taking psyllium, as it absorbs water to work properly. No matter which fiber you choose, always drink plenty of fluids! Fiber supplements can cause discomfort if you don’t stay hydrated. These fibers can help improve gut health, balance your microbiota, and reduce histamine in the gut, but always listen to your body and choose what works best for you! FiberMend & PaleoFiber are blends of the above different fiber types. They both easily dissolve in water. Organic Psyllium is an excellent resource for those struggling with constipation or diarrhea. If you are experiencing diarrhea, take half the dosage daily until your bowel movements are solid. If either condition persists after 3-4 days, make sure to contact your medical professional. 11 more items in Floxie FoundationalBegin Your Recovery Today! Recovery from being floxed or Cipro toxicity can take months. However, you can speed up your recovery with some support through support dietary changes and dietary supplementation. There are many moving parts in your recovery due to the damage this class of antibiotics can inflict on your body, starting with the damage to the mitochondria DNA (mtDNA) that later leads to increased oxidative stress and chronic inflammation. Not to mention its impact on producing healthy mtDNA, making this a chronic health condition not much different than acquiring Lyme Disease or a mold infection. This class of antibiotics also impacts healthy collagen production and causes early destruction of tendons and ligaments due to an upregulation of enzymes known as MMPs. Usually, these enzymes destroy and eliminate older and unhealthy tendons and ligaments to make way for healthy and new tendons. But if upregulated, they can damage tendons and lead to tendon pain. Because of the impact that fluoroquinonal antibiotics have on the mitochondria and the reduction of the production of powerful antioxidants that the body produces, creates oxidative stress and tissue damage, triggering epigenetic changes. This dramatically impacts our immune system, including possible mast cell activation (MCAS) and often intolerance to foods high in histamine. When our immune system is heightened, similar to an autoimmune response, this can lead to various symptoms, including nerve pain, anxiety, chronic fatigue, and tendon pain. To start your recovery, it is recommended to go on a low-histamine diet (see the list attached). Lower histamine helps to balance the immune system, reduces nerve pain, and helps support the mitochondria. Going gluten-free is also highly recommended to reduce food intolerance and sensitivities. As you begin your recovery, focus on the three critical areas of imbalances: Mitochondria, Histamine Intolerance, & Glutathione Production or Antioxidant System Support. Add in additional supplements as needed. Mitochondria - Support the mitochondria with key nutrients that help the mitochondria to produce energy or ATP. To protect the mitochondria, CoQ10 is an excellent anti-oxidant. CoQ10 - Supports healthy energy production in the mitochondria and reduces oxidative stress. PQQ - Helps the body produce healthy mitochondria. Due to epigenetic changes after being floxed, the production of healthy mitochondria becomes compromised. Reduce Histamine Histamine Digest - Digestive enzyme that degrades histamine in the gut. Histamine Block - Key nutrients that help to degrade histamine. HistaEze - A natural antihistamine that helps to reduce symptoms. Glutathione Production - Antioxidant Support Fluroquinol toxicity reduces the effectiveness of our body's natural antioxidant system, which includes glutathione, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT). Research has shown that high supplementation with glutathione, including IV therapy, may worsen your symptoms. It is best to supplement with compounds that support the production of glutathione and key nutrients that helps to support our natural antioxidant system. NRF2 Modulator - Key nutrients that support the production of the antioxidant complex (GSH, SOD, CAT). NAC - Is a powerful anti-oxidant on its own and may increase glutathione . CAUTION: Limit dosage with histamine intolerance. Do not take with sulforaphane supplements, as NAC will reduce the effectiveness. Melatonin - Provides powerful anti-oxidants to reduce oxidative stress and promotes healthy, restorative sleep. Nerve Pain & Ringing in the Ears (Tinnitus) Nerve pain is very common with being floxed, and that is due the numerous reasons, including excessive oxidative stress and in some cases poor vascular tone or circulation. PEA - A compound that has been proven to reduce nerve pain. Curcumin is added to reduce inflammation. Alpha Lipoic Acid - This compound has been shown to reduce nerve pain in diabetics and other health conditions that can lead to nerve pain. Take 1 to 2 per day to help relieve nerve pain. Other supplemental support: Magnesium - SRT - Slow-release form that does not cause digestive disturbances. If you are sensitive to vitamin B6, use the B vitamin-free formula. Start with 500 mg and increase to 1000 mg. per day. Magnesium deficiency is common with being floxed. Ligament Restore - Excellent supplement that helps reduce tendon pain and inflammation. Whole Body Collagen - Contains all of the collagen forms to help support the healthy production of collagen, reducing tendon pain and the risk for tendon tears.
