"Dosing for hot flashes: 40 - 80 mg daily. Mild/moderate hot flashes: start one 40 mg capsule by mouth daily. May take 2 weeks to see any response and possibly 4 weeks for maximum benefit. Severe hot flashes: start 40 mg capsules by mouth twice daily. May take 2 weeks to see any response and possibly 4 weeks for maximum benefit. Non-concerning side effects that are likely to resolve: nausea, mild cramping, diarrhea, mild headache. "

"Siberian Rhubarb. Background: Extracts from the root of the plant are used for a variety of purposes including GI concerns, skin complaints, menstrual disorders, and hot flashes. Concerning side effect that would require immediate visit with PCP or urgent care: worsening or new severe headache. Dosing for hot flashes: 4 - 8 mg daily Mild/moderate hot flashes: Take 4 mg capsule by mouth once daily. May take 2 weeks to see any response and possibly 4 weeks for maximum benefit. Severe hot flashes: start with 4 mg twice daily dosing (Q 12 hours) for the first two weeks as a loading dose and then may reduce to once daily dosing. The loading dose can reduce response time to the herb. May take 2 weeks to see any response and possibly 4 weeks for maximum benefit. Non-concerning side effects that are likely to resolve: nausea, mild cramping, diarrhea, mild headache. "
