There is a tremendous amount of research discussing the need to keep our dosing of Vitamin D in the range of 5000-10,000iu per day year round.

For kids their dose increases with age. Babies start at 500iu, as toddlers their range is about 1000iu /day. After age 5 that shifts to 2000iu /day and holds there through 10 years old, when we bump to 3000iu /day. We hold at this level until your child is greater than 15 years old.

During the winter months our bodies are unable to synthesize enough Vitamin D due to lack of sunlight. This makes Vitamin D supplementation critical. I have attached a link with a couple of different research articles about Vitamin D. Kids should be taking daily vitamin D as well.
