Lifestyle recommendations
Nutrition
- Cruciferous vegetables daily. Broccoli sprouts are the most concentrated source of what's in SulforaClear. Also broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, arugula. Chop, let sit a few minutes, steam lightly.
- Color at every meal. Berries, leafy greens, peppers, citrus, herbs. This is where your antioxidants come from.
- Fatty fish 2 to 3x per week. Salmon, sardines, mackerel, anchovies.
- Protein at every meal. Glutathione is built from amino acids you eat. Add sulfur-rich foods: garlic, onions, leeks, eggs.
- More water than usual. Hydrated mucous membranes are your first filter. Air conditioning is drying.
- Keep fiber up. What your liver processes has to leave.
- Ease off alcohol. Adds oxidative burden, disrupts sleep, triggers hot flashes.
Poached pear. A traditional remedy for dry, irritated lungs. Halve and core a pear, simmer in water 20 to 30 minutes until soft, add a little honey and fresh ginger. Eat warm, ideally in the evening. Chinese medicine has used pear for centuries to moisten the lungs and calm a dry cough, and it's a good addition when the air has been hazy for days and your throat feels scratchy.
Movement
- Keep the air clean in your home.
- Stay indoors as much as possible.
- Wear a mask outdoors.
- Avoid activities that further pollute the indoor air like candles or vacuuming.
- Use indoor air filters that filter smoke. They can be very expensive, attaching a MERV 13 filter form your local hardware store to a box fan is an alternative.
