Often the winter months can take a toll on our health due to increased cases of various viruses, colds and flu, so this is why supporting our immune system during this time is so very important. The supplements listed are some of my favorites that I always have on hand during this time. There are also so very helpful guides attached! 1. Vitamin C Generally speaking, taking vitamin C may help reduce the duration of colds by about a half-day, ( Ran 2018 ) or by about 8% in adults and 14-18% in children. ( Hemila 2013 ) It appears to be particularly helpful for individuals who are exercising regularly. ( Douglas 2007 ) A typical dose is 1,000-2,000 mg daily. ( Hemila 2013 ) 2. N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) NAC is a precursor to cysteine, one of the amino acids the body needs to synthesize glutathione. Studies indicate that supplementing with NAC can help preserve and replenish glutathione. ( Mikhtari 2017 )( Shackebaei 2005 ) Supporting glutathione levels is critical for maintaining healthy immune function. ( Ghezzi 2011 )( Droge 2000 ) A typical dose is 600 mg one to three times daily. ( Hashemi 2019 ) 3. Probiotics Probiotics may modestly reduce the incidence, severity, and duration of colds. ( Zhang 2018 )( Kang 2013 )( Lei 2017 )( Yeh 2018 ) A typical minimum dose is 1 billion CFU; however, dosages of 5-10 billion CFU are common as well. ( Berggren 2011)<br/> 4. Vitamin D3 Vitamin D is a fat-soluable vitamin that appears to demonstrate both immune-hancing and immunosuppressive effects. There is increasing evidence that is may also contribute to antioxidant function by inhibiting lipid peroxidase. Daily recommended supplementation is typically 2000 IU if moderate deficiency is suspected and at higher doses if major deficiency is suspected. Dosages over 5000 IU per day should be monitored by the ordering physician. Common food sources include liver, beef, veal, eggs, dairy, some saltwater fish, and fortified cereals. 5. Zinc Zn is an essential trace element for all organisms. It is a cofactor in more than 300 enzymes influencing various organ functions having a secondary effect on the immune system. (RINK 2000 ). Zinc supports the immune system by facilitating normal development and function of immune cells, proper coordination between various components of the immune system through appropriate signaling mechanisms, stabilization of the cell membrane of immune cells by protecting them against oxidative stress, and production and release of certain chemicals called cytokines involved in immune reactions. ☞ Here's to a happy and supported Immune System! Adrenal Fatigue is becoming more and more common these days and additional stress on the adrenal glands can cause a myriad of debilitating symptoms as well as long-lasting impact on the body. Adrenal Fatigue can be described as a functional dysregulation of the capacity of the adrenal glands to regulate corticoid and catecholamine output. This is often stress or drug induced, and is typically reversible with appropriate therapy. Integrating the basic foundations of health can also greatly improve the outcome. "The Basics”: Good Sleep, Healthy Diet, Blood Sugar Control, Fresh Air, Filtered/Good Quality Water, Love, Relationship to stress, Proper Digestion and Absorption, Positive Thought Processes, and Constitutional Balance. Some of the more common symptoms associated with adrenal fatigue are: Feeling "Tired and Wired" Anxiety Depression Frequent Urination Restlessness Difficulty Concentrating Headaches Irritability Jaw or Teeth Pain from grinding Lack of Joy or Enthusiasm Diminished Memory Poor Sleep Sighing Frequently Frequent Constipation Need for Caffeine Cravings for Heavy/Fatty Foods or Sugary Foods Irritability when Hungry Dehydration Gas and Bloating/Irregular Stools Low blood pressure with dizziness upon standing up quickly/standing upright from sitting down too long Joint Pain/Stiffness Lower immunity (getting sick all the time) Hair Loss You can assess your own Adrenal Health with Dr. Alan Christianson's Adrenal Quiz https://www.drchristianson.com/adrenal-quiz/ Researched nutrients that have been known to help Adrenal Fatigue are included in the following supplement suggestions. ZenBiome Sleep™ is formulated to help clients deal with occasional sleeplessness, but can also help support feelings of relaxation and reduced tension. B-Supreme includes important B vitamins that can help nourish and support healthy adrenal gland function. Some of the most important include Vitamin B3, B6, and B12. Vitamin C - a lack of this important antioxidants can often contribute to anxiety, depression, insomnia and fatigue. Vitamin C can help to prevent cortisol from being used up too quickly and it helps with energy. Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant)- this plant is and antioxidant superstar and one my personal faves! Blackcurrants contain many vitamins, such as: A B-5 B-6 B-1 E The most significant is vitamin C It also has anti-inflammatory and immune supporting properties. It can increase blood flow and help lower blood pressure. Because it can slow blood clotting, blackcurrant supplements are not recommended for people with bleeding disorders or those about to have surger y. Magnesium Glycinate helps with energy production, mitochondrial support, relaxes muscles, nervous system support and so much more! Trace Mineral Complex Adrenal imbalances can trigger and/or worsen other problems, like low thyroid function. Zinc, manganese, selenium, and iodine are trace minerals needed to keep your entire endocrine system humming along and your hormones balanced. It’s important to supplement with these trace minerals since it’s difficult to get enough through diet alone. You may not need ALL of the supplements listed in this support plan therefore it is a good idea to ALWAYS consult with your healthcare practitioner before starting any new supplements.
