From: https://www.nourishingmedicine.com/how-to-heal-quickly-after-surgery/ My favorite instructor in both my Masters and Doctorate level education was Dr. Joe Coletto, a naturopathic physician/acupuncturist for 30 years in Portland, Oregon. The pearls of wisdom below come from him. I've given this to my own patients over the years and it’s amazing the feedback I get from them who all say that when they go back for their post-op appointment, the surgeon says the same thing: “I've never seen anyone heal this quickly.” To which my patient always replies that it must be all the supplements their acupuncturist recommended. To which, without fail, no matter who the surgeon is, the surgeon replies, “Nah, must be a coincidence.” Literally, like every time, I hear this same exact experience. It always makes me laugh. Here is a list of supplements, none of them unusual or expensive and all are easily found on Amazon. Pre- & Post-Surgery Treatments: Start 7-10 days prior to surgery and maintain 7-10 post-surgery Also, don’t eat potatoes the week before surgery as nightshades may block anesthesia. 1. Bromelain (An anti-inflammatory agent from pineapples) 500mg 3xday btw meals (3xday is very important for Bromelain, not just 2xday) 1800mcu potency 2. Vitamin C (another anti-inflammatory) 1000mg 3xday 3. Zinc (Helps wound healing) 15 mg 3xday or 50mg once a day 4. Copper (Used to balance the zinc above because zinc can drive down HDL and drive up LDL levels with dosage above RDA for over a week) 1-2mg once a day 5. Bilberry (Strengthens vessels, increases blood circulation) 120-160mg 3xday 6. Gotu Kola (Increases collagen strength in body) 75-250mg 1-3x/day depending on what you can find 7. Vitamin A (Helps wound healing) 50-100,000 IU/day for 3-5 days (unlike the rest above which you take 7-10 days pre- and 7-10 day post-surgery. Note: Vitamin A can be hepato-toxic, do not use this if you have liver problems. Dr. Coletto uses this only for facial surgery in order for it to heal as smoothly as possible. Shouldn’t be a problem for 3-5 days.

The middle of a pandemic has got to be the most important time for your immune system to be in tip-top shape. These are all the immune-boosting products I recommend. Avoid sugar.  This is number 1 because it’s that important!  Consumption of sugar (even fruit sugars) can decrease your immune system by 30% for up to 4 hours. Sign up for the Winter Wellness treatment, what I like to call the Chinese flu shot Get acupuncture . It is especially effective when your acupuncturist performs moxabustion on your immune boosting point. Vitamin D - 3-5000 iu/day even in the summer if you are low.  It’s a good idea to get tested.  There are “normal” levels and then there are optimal levels, try to stay around 50 for optimal. Eat plenty of mushrooms, especially Reishi, Shitake, Maitake mushrooms. Or, you can take a immune boosting mushroom supplement. Improve your sleep and get plenty of rest.  Schedule in downtime, if you need to. Keep facial orifices clean and clear:Nose: use a Neti Pot or Nasopure with salt water. Ears: Put 3-4 hydrogen peroxide drops in each ear while laying on your side. Let it sizzle then fade before dabbing it with a tissue. Repeat other side. Throat: gargle with hydrogen peroxide and water. Face: Change your pillow case every night if you do get sick. Mouth: Pour boiling water over your toothbrush every day. Take probiotics - 1-2 capsules a day, change your brand/strand of bacteria every 3 months (My teacher used to say you've "gotta keep your gut guessing"). Get cupping from your local acupuncturist or trained massage therapist. This has been used for thousands of years to boost the immune system. Eat one clove of fresh garlic daily (cooking destroys much of the immune boosting properties). Drink elderberry tea daily or several times a day. Vitamin C - minimum 1 gram a day but can take up to "bowel tolerance" (which means if you get diarrhea, you’ve taken too much). Take 1-2 Zinc-Elderberry-Vitamin C lozenges per day during cold/flu season. Take adrenal support if colds happen when you get run down; weak adrenals can really decrease immunity.

  • 5 Steps to Beating Sugar Cravings:

5 Steps to Beating Sugar Cravings: product 1
5 Steps to Beating Sugar Cravings: product 2

From: https://www.nourishingmedicine.com/5-steps-to-beating-sugar-cravings/ Take L-Glutamine .  It’s a safe and cheap amino acid.  An amino acid is the building block of protein.  Take 500 mg 3 x day.  It should work within 10 minutes.  If it doesn’t, take another dose. Drink a glass of water with lemon or lime squeezed in it. Sometimes a sugar craving is really a dehydration signal. Eat a crunchy vegetable like cucumber, carrot, jicama, celery, bell peppers, etc. Increase your intake of healthy fats: avocados, coconut oil, nuts, coconut milk. Increase your intake of protein: turkey, chicken, eggs, beef, lamb, etc. Drink a glass of green juice (either fresh or a powder like Paleo Greens) daily. Massage the sore spot just below your inner knee on both sides.  This is an acupressure point called Spleen 9.  See image below. Take a deep breath and ask yourself what your body is really wanting.

Spicy or acidic foods Smoking which can irritate the bowels Coffee Foods with MSG Worrying can weaken the digestion Increase: Hydration: plain water, lemon water with pinch of salt, or coconut water Probiotics by capsule (Not by yogurt. You’d need to eat gallons of yogurt a day to get the amount of bacteria that’s in one capsule of probiotics.)
