Whether you're lifting, running, or finally getting back to a class, your body needs more than willpower to show up. Muscle is what keeps your metabolism, bones, and blood sugar on your side as you get older. START WITH THE BASICS • Protein at every meal, 25 to 30 grams. • Lift something heavy (for you) 2 to 3 times a week. • Eat protein and some carbs within an hour or two after you train. • Water plus salt. Sweat takes minerals with it. • Sleep is recovery. Short nights undo a lot of good effort, since muscle repair happens while you sleep. SUPPORTS I LIKE • Creatine: the most studied supplement for strength. 3 to 5 grams a day, any time. • Protein powder: whey or beef protein isolate, or a quality plant blend. • Aminos before you train: BCAAs or essential aminos. Stir a mocha flavor into your morning coffee for an early workout boost. • Electrolytes: sugar-free, for sweaty workouts and long or hot days. • Magnesium glycinate: in the evening for sore muscles, cramps, and better sleep. • Omega-3 fish oil: helps calm the post-workout ache. • Collagen for joints and tendons, tart cherry after a tough session, and arnica gel for sore spots. Skip mega-dose stimulant pre-workouts and anything claiming to "burn fat" or "melt inches." A little caffeine with BCAAs is fine. Call your doctor for chest pain, dizziness, or fainting with exercise; dark (cola-colored) urine or extreme muscle pain after a hard workout; joint pain or swelling that lasts more than a week; or a period that stops with heavy training. These are surface-level, general supports. If you're doing the work and still dragging, not recovering, or not seeing changes, there's usually a reason underneath. Back-to-back practices, weekend tournaments, and a growth spurt in the middle of it all. A few extras can help fill the gaps, but food, water, and sleep do the heavy lifting. START WITH THE BASICS • Breakfast with protein, especially before morning practice. • A real snack within an hour after: chocolate milk, a PB&J, or a banana and cheese stick. • Water all day, not just at practice. Send a water bottle to school and encourage refills. • Sleep: school-age kids need 9 to 12 hours, teens 8 to 10. • Rest days count. SUPPORTS I LIKE • Electrolyte packets: sugar-free, for long or hot practices and tournament days. • Omega-3 gummies: for growing brains and bodies, and recovery after hard practices. • Kids' multivitamin: a sugar-free gummy for picky eaters. • Magnesium gummies: for leg cramps and growing pains, at bedtime. No melatonin. • Clean protein powder: for teens who can't eat enough, blended into a smoothie. Food comes first. • Arnica gel: for bumps, bruises, and sore muscles. Dose by your child's age, following the label. Skip energy drinks, pre-workouts, "fat burners," and muscle builders like creatine for kids under 18 unless you've talked it through with their pediatrician. Call the doctor for chest pain, fainting, or trouble breathing with exercise; any hit to the head followed by headache, dizziness, confusion, or nausea; or pain that makes them limp or wakes them at night. These are surface-level, general supports. If your athlete is always tired, always sick, or always hurt, there may be something underneath worth looking at. Constipation is common. That doesn't make it normal. If you're going less than once a day, straining, or never quite feeling done, start here. START WITH THE BASICS • Water before coffee. Fiber without water makes things worse, not better. • Add fiber slowly: beans, berries, veggies, oats. • Ground flax and chia, 1 to 2 tablespoons a day. • A 10-minute walk after meals. • Same bathroom time each morning, feet up on a stool. GENTLE SUPPORTS I LIKE • Magnesium citrate (powder or capsules): start with half a dose at bedtime. Loose stools mean back off a little. • Psyllium husk: start with 1 teaspoon in a full glass of water and work up. • Aloe vera juice: about 2 ounces, up to three times a day. • Whole Food Fiber: a whole-food fiber blend I've used with clients for years. • Flax and chia blend: already ground, easy to stir into anything. Skip stimulant laxatives (senna, "smooth move" teas, cleanse pills) for more than a few days. Call your doctor if you see blood in your stool, have severe belly pain, are losing weight without trying, or a new change lasts more than 2 to 3 weeks. These are surface-level, general supports. If you've done the basics and things still aren't moving, there's usually a reason underneath. Book a free intro call: http://p.bttr.to/3b6ydK2 — no pressure, no pitch. Cold and flu season shows up every year. The goal is to be ready before it does. This list comes in two parts, so you can stock up without overthinking it. WHAT TO TAKE DAILY (October through March) • Stellar C: vitamin C plus bioflavonoids for everyday immune support. • Vitamin D + K2 drops: winter sun across most of the US isn't strong enough for your body to make the vitamin D it needs. Drops make it easy to dose for the whole family. • Zinc 15 mg: a gentle daily dose. Take it with food. • 5 Defenders mushroom blend: five whole mushrooms that support a balanced immune response. • Astragalus Complex: steady, long-haul immune support for the mom who catches everything. Stop it if you run a fever and switch to your first-sign supports. AT THE FIRST SIGN OF A COLD • Echinacea Premium: start at the first scratchy throat. Skip it if you're allergic to ragweed. • Immunitone Plus: andrographis, echinacea, and astragalus in one. Good to have on hand when something is going around the house. • Black Elderberry Syrup: a family favorite that actually tastes good. • Zinc lozenges: let them dissolve slowly. You can pause your daily zinc while you're using them. • Propolis throat spray: for scratchy throats. Skip it if you're allergic to bees. FOR KIDS • Kids Black Elderberry Syrup • Kids Immune Avenger These are surface-level, general supports. If you're the one who catches every bug that comes through the house, there's usually a reason underneath. • Thinning Hair--No!!

    Thinning Hair--No!! product 1
    Thinning Hair--No!! product 2

Shedding is a common occurrence, but if you notice visibly thinning hair--more shed than normal, a thinner ponytail, visible scalp where there was none--it can cause a jolt of concern. Thinning hair can be a sign of nutrient deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, and severe stress. I often see it with low thyroid and as a side effect of Semaglutide use (think Ozempic.). These are 2 products I've used and love for symptomatic support. The tablets help with targeted nutrient compounds proven to help hair grow. And the serum utilizes peptides that target follicle growth; it is used to spot treat problem areas. This is not diagnostic or exhaustive, search the catalog for other options! Just type in hair and see what comes up. Share what works for you! This is what I have seen success with. And of course, reach out if you want to talk about any root causes behind the shedding so we can balance that as well.

I'm Kristin, a Master Nutrition Therapist and the founder of The Vital Mom. I work with moms who keep hearing their labs are "normal" while they still feel off. I use functional lab testing, your history, and how you actually feel day to day to find what's going on underneath, then build a plan that fits real life with kids, carpools, and dinner at six. Test, don't guess. Here you'll find the supplements I trust, with notes on how I use them. And since moms never take care of just themselves, you'll find picks for the whole family, too.
