Allergy Season

Does spring have you sneezing and dripping, eyes watering, wishing the flowers would turn to leaves? Here are some of my favorite natural remedies: Use Nasal Irrigation: Nasal irrigation, also known as nasal lavage, involves flushing out the nasal passages with a saline solution. This helps to clear out mucus and allergens that may be trapped in the nasal passages. Studies have shown that nasal irrigation can be effective in reducing symptoms of seasonal allergies, such as congestion and nasal itching. Take Probiotics: Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that live in the gut and help to maintain a healthy immune system. Several studies have suggested that probiotics can help to reduce symptoms of seasonal allergies, particularly in children. Probiotics can be found in certain foods, such as yogurt, kefir, and sauerkraut, or can be taken as supplements. Try Herbal Remedies: Several herbs have been studied for their potential to alleviate symptoms of seasonal allergies. For example, butterbur extract has been shown to be effective in reducing symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, and itchy eyes. Quercetin, a natural flavonoid found in many fruits and vegetables, has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may help to reduce allergy symptoms. Avoid Allergen Triggers: One of the most effective ways to manage seasonal allergies is to avoid exposure to allergens. This may involve staying indoors during peak pollen season, using air purifiers to filter out allergens, and avoiding certain foods that may trigger allergic reactions, and showering to get pollen off your skin. Here are some of my favorite supplements to help with allergies: I have found Histoplex AB to be especially helpful for my patients, along with Vit C, Quercetin, and Probiotics. Given that longterm use of anti-histamines like benadryl, zyrtec, allegra, claritin have been linked to cognitive decline, it is always good to have other options. May you enjoy the beauty of spring without the sneezing! To your vitality, Penney Stringer, MD

2 more items in Sunscreen SeasonWith Spring and Summer comes the Sun!- which we love! Some sun exposure is very beneficial for getting our Vitamin D- which helps our immune systems, hormonal systems, energy, sleep, and moods. Too much sun, can lead to skin cancer and premature aging of skin. Remember to bring layers of light clothing to protect your skin, hat, sun glasses, and find shade when you can. When you do use sunscreen there are a couple of ingredients that you want to avoid due to toxicity and harmful effects on our skin and some even have been linked to increased risk of cancer. Here are the ingredients to avoid: Oxybenzone Octinoxate ( octyl methoxycinnamate) Octisalate Homosalate Octocrylene Avobenzone and of course the big one- FRAGRANCE! There are a few of my favorite sunscreens plus I love the Badger Brand as well. These are considered less toxic than many of the other brands available. If you want to know the safety of your sunscreens, check the ewg.org website for the ratings. Enjoy the sun! In health, Penney Stringer, MD

Hello, This is such a great immune support pack for cold and flu season. It has zinc, NAC, herbs, and medicinal mushrooms to help the body fight viruses and bacterial infections. I recommend to have it in your medicine cabinet so that you have your best defense against flu season. If you take the full dose of the Immune Support Packets, you will get a total of 5000IU vitamin D3. Viracid is particularly effective for first signs of a cold or virus. You can take 1-2 caps every hour for the first day or two that you notice you are coming down with something and then 2 caps daily during cold/ flu season. Broncheeze is great for cough/ respiratory illness. It acts as a strong expectorant to help you clear the infection and mucous from your lungs. I am also including my favorite Vitamin D/ K drops separately. Most people who live in WA that I see need at least 5000iu Vitamin d3 to achieve optimal levels of Vitamin D. And some require more than this. For kids 5 and over, I usually start with 1000IU and work up depending on their age. To your vitality, Penney Stringer, MD
