Probiotic Recommendations

3 more items in Probiotic RecommendationsThe following probiotics can be a great support to both improving and maintaining a healthy gut microbiome. Because of the vast variety of bacteria strains in our gut, rotating the type of probiotic you use every month or every few months can help to build a strong and diverse microbiome. If you find that probiotics makes you feel bloated, you will do best to start with a spore based probiotic or the Smidge sensitive probiotic Just Thrive Probiotic is not available through Fullscript but is an excellent Spore Based probiotic which can be good to take before and after antibiotic use or for those who experience increased bloating with probiotics. Best taken with a meal.

Dietary Recommendations In addition to focusing on a whole food diet, prioritize gut healing foods as well as foods rich in pre and probiotics. Specifically add in: Bone Broth, 4-8 oz daily Collagen or Collagen rich proteins (meats cooked on the bone) 5-7 servings of Cooked non starchy vegetables Fermented foods like sauerkraut or kefir daily Optional boost of prebiotics: Apple Pectin (recipe below) Limit or Avoid: Processed Sugar or Carbohydrates Gluten and Grains Industrialized Oils: canola, soybean, vegetable, peanut, corn, sunflower, safflower, nut and seed oils Apple Pectin Recipe This is essentially applesauce, but cooked in a way where it brings out the pectin in the apple skin which are a powerful prebiotic to support the health of your microbiome. Ingredients: 4 organic apples, washed, seeded, chopped, but not peeled Barely cover with water and bring to a boil Handful of raisins 2 Tbls. Ground cinnamon Directions: - Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan and bring to a boil – about 8-10 minutes. - Watch the apple skin – when it begins to take on a sheen, the apples are done. - When you see the sheen, turn off the heat. - The pectin inside the skin is easily accessible to the microbiome in the colon and helps to repopulate beneficial flora and helps heal leaky gut Adult Dose: 5 spoonfuls twice daily. Use for one month post antibiotics. Child Dose: 1-2 spoonfuls twice daily for under 3; 3-4 spoonfuls twice daily for 3-6. Full adult dose for age 6+ Supplement Recommendations Probiotics: Megasporebiotic Start a Probiotic as soon as you can while taking the antibiotic. Megasporebiotic is the preferred probiotic to take while on antibiotics as it is less likely to be completely killed off by the antibiotics Dosing : You can take 1-2 times the typical dose of the probiotic. For example, if the regular dose of the probiotic is 1 capsules daily, while on probiotics you may consider taking 2 capsules daily instead. Timing : Space the probiotic at least 2 hours away from the antibiotic. Duration: Take the probiotics at least 3 times the duration of the antibiotics. For example, if you are taking a 5 day course of antibiotics, you will take a probiotic for a total of 15 days or more. Prebiotic Support : Butyrate Sodium Adding in supplemental prebiotic support can help further replenish the gut microbiome while also nourishing the gut lining. You can begin taking this supplement while taking antibiotics or begin taking this after your antibiotics course is done. Dosing : 1 capsule Timing : Take twice daily with food. It is best taken with a fiber rich meal that include fruits and/or veggies Duration: Take for 30 days or at least 1 month following course of antibiotics Gut Healing Support, Optional: Megamucosa Focus first on including collagen and bone broth in your diet to support gut healing. If you feel you need further support, adding in supplemental gut healing support can be beneficial. You can begin taking this supplement while taking antibiotics. Dosing : 2 capsules Timing : Take twice daily away from food, at least 30 minutes before a meal or 90 minutes after a meal Duration : Take for at least 30 days.
