Lab tests

Specific checks

Liver, kidney, urinary infection, food allergy, and the TB test for work.

  • TB Blood Test (QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus)

The tuberculosis blood test that home health agencies, nursing homes, hospitals and schools usually accept for hiring. Check with your employer. One visit, with no second trip to have a skin test read. A BCG vaccine from childhood doesn't cause a false positive, a common problem with the skin test for people born in Eastern Europe. No fasting. Results in 2–5 business days, with a lab report you can give your employer. A positive result doesn't mean active TB: it needs a chest X-ray and a visit with a clinician. Need a signed form for your employer? Book a short consultation (patients in Florida and Michigan).

  • UTI Panel with culture and sensitivity

Urinalysis with automatic culture: if infection shows up, the lab grows the bacteria and tests which antibiotics actually work. That means the right antibiotic the first time. Give a clean-catch midstream sample at the lab.

  • Liver & Hepatitis Screen

Liver enzymes including GGT, plus hepatitis C screening and a hepatitis B check for both immunity and past exposure. The CDC recommends hepatitis testing for every adult. It matters especially if you grew up in Eastern Europe or Central Asia, where hepatitis B is more common. Results also show whether you need the hepatitis B vaccine. No prep.

  • Most Common Food Allergy Panel

IgE antibodies to 17 foods: peanut, 7 tree nuts, milk, egg, wheat, soy, sesame, cod, salmon, tuna, shrimp and scallop. For hives, swelling, vomiting or breathing trouble within 2 hours of eating, not for bloating or food intolerance. A positive result is read together with your symptoms. No prep.

  • Kidney Function Panel

Creatinine, eGFR, BUN, electrolytes, glucose and a full urinalysis. It's the check you need before a CT or MRI with contrast, and a smart yearly baseline if you have high blood pressure or diabetes, or regularly take ibuprofen or naproxen. No prep.
