Details
This test measures thyroglobulin (Tg) and thyroglobulin antibodies (Anti-Tg). Thyroglobulin is a protein produced by the thyroid gland that is often used as a tumor marker in patients with thyroid cancer. It is primarily monitored after thyroidectomy or radioactive iodine treatment to detect recurrence or residual thyroid tissue. Thyroglobulin antibodies are autoantibodies directed against thyroglobulin. Elevated levels are commonly associated with autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and can interfere with thyroglobulin monitoring in thyroid cancer patients.
