Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) is a compound produced by gut bacteria from dietary nutrients such as choline and carnitine. Measuring TMAO levels can help assess cardiovascular disease risk, evaluate gut microbiome imbalance (dysbiosis), and monitor the effectiveness of TMAO-reducing interventions.
