Albuminuria is a more precise indicator of kidney health than general protein levels in urine, making this test crucial for early detection and management of CKD.

Why is this test important?
Spotting albuminuria early, especially in people with diabetes or high blood pressure, can help manage these conditions better, reducing the risk of heart problems and slowing down CKD progression. A high ACR level over time points to CKD. This test is also recommended if you've had a positive urine strip test for protein.

What affects the test results?

  • Standing for long periods (orthostatic proteinuria)
  • Other conditions increasing blood vessel permeability (like septicemia)

What to do if your ACR is high?
If your ACR is consistently high, it's advised to repeat the test with early morning samples over the next two months for accurate assessment. Severe cases may require specialist kidney care.
