Bilirubin, Direct - This test measures the level of conjugated bilirubin in the blood. Direct bilirubin is water-soluble and is produced when the liver processes waste products. This test is essential in assessing liver function and diagnosing liver diseases such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, and bile duct obstruction. It can also help detect conditions that cause increased destruction of red blood cells.

- Yellowing of the skin and eyes
- Dark urine

Proper handling is crucial.
Plasma collected in: Lithium heparin (green-top) tube or sodium heparin (green-top) tube.
Serum transferred to an amber transport vial.
