Sample type: Whole blood

Phlebotomy required
Details
Borrelia Species DNA, Real-Time PCR, with Reflexes, Blood - The diagnosis of Borreliosis is most often made by clinical examination combined with evidence of tick bite or exposure in endemic areas. Amplification of Borrelia genomic DNA from blood, fluids or tissues can support the diagnosis. This test detects Borrelia species which are associated with either Lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi), or relapsing fever (Borrelia miyamotoi).
Reflex testing uses predefined clinical logic to automatically order one or more follow-up tests based on the initial test results. Reflex tests are performed automatically without the intervention of the ordering practitioner. They are conducted using the same sample your Patient already provided. If reflex tests are required, there will be additional charges.
Initial test
- Borrelia Species DNA, Qualitative Real Time PCR
Possible reflex biomarkers
- Borrelia miyamotoi flaB gene
- Borrelia burgdorferi DNA, Qualitative Real-Time PCR
Estimated days for results: Results should be available in 2 - 5 business days after the sample is collected
A positive result for Borrelia species but a negative result for Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia miyamotoi may indicate that infection is caused by other Borrelia species. A negative result for Borrelia species does not rule out Borrelia infection, and appropriate serology testing may be clinically warranted.
