Details
Copper Test - Copper is a vital mineral that plays a key role in our body by helping many enzymes work properly. It's important for detecting conditions like Wilson's disease, Menkes disease, primary biliary cirrhosis, and Indian childhood cirrhosis, where copper balance is off. Copper levels can go up during certain times, like when you're sick or in the last part of pregnancy. They can go down due to kidney problems, not absorbing nutrients well, or not getting enough nutrients. This test is also used to check on the health of patients, especially babies born early, who are getting extra nutrition. Doctors often look at copper test results along with another test called ceruloplasmin to get the full picture.

What patients is this test right for?
This test is especially important for people suspected of having diseases that affect copper levels in the body, or for monitoring the nutritional status of certain patients, like preterm newborns.

What type of sample is required for this test?
2 mL plasma. It needs to be collected in a special tube called an EDTA (royal blue-top) tube or a heparin (royal blue-top) tube.
