Details
IGF-1, LC/MS - Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1, or Somatomedin C) is a protein that plays a crucial role in stimulating growth throughout the body. It works closely with Growth Hormone (GH) and is affected by what we eat. IGF-1 moves around in the blood, attached to several proteins, which helps keep its levels stable and prevents big changes in how much IGF-1 is in the blood.

What patients is this test right for?
This test is important for diagnosing different conditions related to growth. For example, if someone is not growing as expected (a condition known as Dwarfism due to Hypopituitarism), it might be because they have low levels of IGF-1. On the other hand, very high levels of IGF-1 can indicate acromegaly, a condition where someone grows too much because of too much growth hormone. This test is also used to check if someone's diet is affecting their growth, as not eating enough can lower IGF-1 levels, which then return to normal with proper nutrition.

What type of sample is required for this test?
0.5 mL serum. A blood sample is needed.
