Kidney Profile

Quest Diagnostics

Sample type: Serum

Requires fasting: No

Phlebotomy required

Details

This Profile combines two common tests-estimated glomerular filtration rate and urine albumin-creatinine ratio to support early detection of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). This profile supports the National Kidney Foundation initiative to drive adoption of the profile to facilitate appropriate ordering of the elements of the profile to address early detection of CKD. A NHANES (CDC) study showed that only 8% of people with an eGFR <60 mL/min/1.73 m2 knew they had CKD. For those with the same eGFR and a urinary albumin/creatinine ratio (ACR) >30 mg/g, only 28% were aware they had CKD. The guidelines are part of the laboratory engagement plan for CKD Intercept, sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation.

  • Creatinine
  • Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate
  • Albumin, Urine
  • Albumin/Creatinine Ratio, Random Urine
  • Creatinine, Random Urine

Estimated days for results: Results should be available in 2 - 5 business days after the sample is collected

Details
Kidney Profile - This test combines two important assessments, the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and the urine albumin-creatinine ratio (ACR), to help in the early detection of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). It aligns with the National Kidney Foundation's efforts to encourage the use of this profile for early CKD detection. Surprisingly, a study by NHANES (CDC) found that only a small percentage of individuals with reduced kidney function were aware of their condition. This test aims to increase awareness and early diagnosis of CKD.

What patients is this test right for?
This test is crucial for individuals at risk of CKD or those who wish to monitor their kidney health. Early detection can lead to better management of the condition.

What type of sample is required for this test?
1 mL serum and 10 mL random urine collected in a plastic urine container.
