This test measures insulin. Insulin is a marker of insulin resistance and is commonly used with HbA1c.

High fasting insulin is an indicator of insulin resistance. Chronically high fasting insulin is seen as the body attempts to normalize blood sugar levels. High fasting insulin suggests the presence of insulin resistance even if the patient shows glucose tolerance and a normal HbA1c.

- DO NOT take biotin/vitamin B7.
12 Hours Before Collection
- You must fast for 10-12 hours Before Collection.
- Fasting means you don't eat or drink anything except water.
- Your doctor should provide any special instructions related to fasting for your test. Always follow your doctor's instructions.
Day of Collection
- Collect your sample within one hour of waking.
