ZRT Laboratory

Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH)

ZRT Laboratory

Sample type: Bloodspot

Requires fasting: No

At home test

Details

TSH is a pituitary hormone stimulating the thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormone. It is used to evaluate thyroid function and monitor hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism with and without medication.

  • Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone, Dried Blood Spot

Estimated days for results: Results should arrive 8-10 business days after the lab receives samples.

Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone is the main pituitary hormone signaling the thyroid gland. TSH is inversely associated with thyroid hormone production, so elevated TSH is associated with low thyroid hormone production and low TSH reflects elevated thyroid hormone production. TSH levels may be used as a screening for hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism as well as monitoring medication usage. ZRT uses tighter ranges based on the Endocrine Society and Laboratory recommendations.
