Castor Oil Packs: a timeless naturopathic therapy
CASTOR OIL: A timeless naturopathic therapy Castor oil has been used for centuries as a natural healing remedy, valued in ancient cultures (Egypt and India) for its restorative and anti-inflammatory properties. Extracted from the seeds of the Ricinus communis plant, castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid, a unique fatty acid believed to support circulation, lymphatic flow, and the body’s natural detoxification processes. Below, you’ll find step-by-step instructions on how to make and use a castor oil pack, along with guidance on when and why this traditional remedy may be beneficial. What You’ll Need:  -Cold-pressed, hexane-free castor oil  -A cloth (flannel, washcloth, towel) **be aware: the oil will stain it**  -A heating pad, or any other heat source Instructions:  1. Pour castor oil onto the cloth until it is well saturated but not dripping.  2, Place the oil-soaked cloth directly on your skin over the desired area, most common location is the abdomen.  3. Place a heating pad or hot water bottle over the pack. Keep the heat warm, not hot.  4. Leave the pack on for 20 minutes, minimally. Use this time to rest, meditate, or breathe deeply or even read a good book or watch a movie.  5. Remove the pack and gently cleanse the skin with warm water and mild soap or a baking soda solution to remove excess oil. 6. Place the cloth in a glass container or sealed bag. It can be reused several times by adding more oil as needed. Just be sure when using it doesn’t smell rancid, if it does its time to use a new cloth.  7. Castor oil packs can be used 3–4 times per week or daily for short periods, depending on your needs and comfort level. Indications for Castor Oil Packs: Castor oil packs are commonly used to support digestion, reduce inflammation, and promote relaxation. They may help with abdominal discomfort, menstrual or muscle pain, liver and lymphatic support, and anti-inflammation. Who Should Not Use Castor Oil Packs: Castor oil packs should not be used during pregnancy, over open wounds, or on areas with active infection. Attached are options for castor oil (roll-on or glass bottle) and flannel (wool or cotton). You can choose your preference.
