Seasonal Allergy Support Guide

3 more items in Seasonal Allergy Support GuideSeasonal Allergy Support Community Plan Spring in the Midwest means one thing: pollen. If your seasonal allergies are already making themselves known — or you want to get ahead of them before they do — this plan has what you need. I put this together because not all allergy supplements work the same way, and the right choice depends on your specific picture. The products here address different pieces of the puzzle: histamine and mast cell stabilization, upstream immune regulation, gut-immune support, and acute rescue when symptoms spike. A note on community plans: One of the perks of being part of the ANW Fullscript community is access to these resources — general educational guides I put together on common topics and questions I hear from clients. This plan isn't a personalized recommendation for any individual, but consider it a little bonus for being here. For guidance specific to your health history and goals, please schedule an appointment. How to choose your foundation — pick one: BCQ (Vital Nutrients) — If your symptoms go beyond sneezing and include respiratory discomfort, chest tightness, joint flares, or a general full-body inflammatory response. Boswellia targets airway inflammation through a different pathway than quercetin alone. AllerEssentials (Pure Encapsulations) — If you've tried standard antihistamines and they barely touch it, or your allergies feel like part of a bigger pattern of immune reactivity (food sensitivities, stress-triggered flares, reacting to a lot of things). Works upstream on immune balance rather than just blocking histamine. Quercetin Complex (Thorne) — If your symptoms are mild to moderate and fairly predictable, or you're sensitive to supplements and prefer a clean, two-ingredient formula. Add-ons — stack with any foundation: EpicDefense (Microbiome Labs) — Year-round gut-immune support. Worth adding if your digestive symptoms and allergy symptoms tend to flare together, or if you want to address the gut-immune connection as part of a longer-term approach. Upper Respiratory Support (Wise Woman Herbals) — Liquid tincture for acute flares. Reach for this when congestion is bad and you need something fast. Situational use, not daily. Liposomal C (Pure Encapsulations) — Stacks cleanly with everything above if you aren't getting enough from your diet. Vitamin C supports histamine breakdown and immune function; the liposomal form actually gets absorbed at meaningful doses without the GI side effects of standard high-dose vitamin C. Want the full breakdown — including the science behind each product, diet and lifestyle recommendations, and an interactive quiz to help you find your best fit? Read the full guide here! 2 more items in Seasonal Immune SupportSeasonal Immune Support Plan Rooted in daily habits + strengthened with targeted nutrients and botanicals As the weather turns colder and we spend more time indoors, our immune systems work harder to keep us well. Foundational habits, like nourishing meals, quality sleep, regular movement, and stress management, form the backbone of immune resilience. But the right blend of nutrients and botanicals can make a significant difference in how effectively your body responds to challenges. Research supports the role of certain vitamins, minerals, herbs, and probiotics in maintaining balanced immune function, healthy inflammation, and overall resilience through the winter months. This plan combines clinically supported formulas that work with your body to keep your immune system steady and strong all season long. 🌿 1. Pure Encapsulations Daily Immune Why it helps: This comprehensive blend provides both foundational nutrients and time-tested botanicals for balanced immune function. Vitamin C and zinc lay the groundwork for overall immune resilience, supporting the activity and strength of immune cells. Vitamin D works at the cellular level—its receptors are found on key immune cells such as lymphocytes and macrophages, helping regulate immune activation. Elderberry and lemon balm supply anthocyanins, flavonoids, and polyphenols that help defend against oxidative stress and support a healthy immune response. Arabinogalactan, aloe, and maitake mushroom contribute beneficial polysaccharides that promote healthy immune activity and mucosal defenses. Quercetin supports mast cell stability, which plays an important role in balanced immune signaling. Astragalus and eleuthero (Siberian ginseng) act as adaptogens, helping the body stay resilient through stress and seasonal changes. How to use: Take as directed on the bottle, ideally with food. Use daily through the fall and winter for consistent support. ☀️ 2. Thorne Vitamin D Liquid Why it helps: Low vitamin D levels are common in winter months and are linked with reduced immune efficiency and higher infection risk. Vitamin D supports both innate and adaptive immune cells and helps regulate inflammation. How to use: Take 2–8 drops daily , or as directed after testing your vitamin D levels. Take with food for best absorption. 🍊 3. Thorne Vitamin C with Flavonoids Why it helps: Vitamin C is essential for immune defense, tissue repair, and antioxidant protection. The addition of flavonoids (natural plant compounds) enhances absorption and synergistic effects. Studies show vitamin C may help reduce symptom duration and severity of respiratory infections and support a healthy inflammatory response. How to use: Take 1–2 capsules daily with food, or increase temporarily during times of higher stress or exposure. 🍄 4. Reishi Mushroom Extract (Real Mushrooms) Why it helps: Reishi ( Ganoderma lucidum ) has long been used to promote vitality and longevity. Modern research confirms it supports natural killer (NK) cell activity , immune regulation, and balanced inflammation. Reishi also acts as an adaptogen , helping the body stay resilient under stress. How to use: Take 2 capsules daily , ideally with breakfast or your morning beverage. Use consistently for best results. 🦠 5. Microbiome Labs EpicDefense Why it helps: This formula supports the immune system through a combination of nutrients, postbiotic compounds, and probiotics: EpiCor® yeast fermentate (from Saccharomyces cerevisiae ) helps strengthen immune cell function and has been shown in clinical studies to reduce the frequency of colds and shorten symptom duration. Zinc bisglycinate provides highly absorbable zinc for immune and antioxidant support. Lactobacillus rhamnosus (LGG®) and Bifidobacterium lactis (BB-12®) are two of the most researched probiotic strains for respiratory and gut immune health. How to use: Take 1 capsule daily with food. Consistency is key for best immune benefits. 🧘♀️ Daily Habits That Strengthen Immune Resilience Supplements work best when they’re paired with daily practices that support your body’s natural defense systems: Eat colorfully: Brightly colored fruits and vegetables provide antioxidants that protect immune cells. Prioritize protein: Supports antibody production and tissue repair. Move regularly: Even gentle daily activity promotes circulation and immune balance. Get 7–9 hours of sleep: Quality rest allows immune cells to regenerate and regulate inflammation. Manage stress: Chronic stress suppresses immune function—simple breathwork, walks, or mindfulness help keep your system balanced. Stay hydrated: Water supports lymphatic flow and mucosal health, your body’s first barrier of defense. ✨ Think of immune support as something you build over time—not a quick fix. Daily habits and consistent, evidence-based supplementation together create the strongest foundation for wellness. 6 more items in Summer Sunscreen GuideYour Summer Sunscreen Guide What to Look For + My Recommended Picks Not all sunscreens are created equal and there are so many to choose from! If you’ve ever stood in a drugstore aisle overwhelmed by SPF numbers and ingredient lists, you’re not alone. Here’s a quick breakdown of what to look for and avoid, plus a curated list of safer, skin-friendly sunscreen options. What to Look For in a Safer Sunscreen: ✅ Mineral-based ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide — these sit on top of your skin and physically block UV rays ✅ Broad-spectrum protection — blocks both UVA (aging and inflammation) and UVB (burning) rays ✅ Non-nano particles — to reduce absorption into the body ✅ Fragrance-free or naturally scented — ideal for sensitive or reactive skin What to Avoid: 🚫 Oxybenzone or octinoxate — associated with hormone disruption and coral reef damage 🚫 Spray sunscreens — they may not apply evenly and often contain harmful propellants. - I did include one safer spray option, but I recommend using caution applying even mineral-based spray sunscreens. While though they are safer on the skin, inhaling them can be irritating to the lungs. 🚫 “Sport” or “waterproof” claims — while the protection may last a little bit longer, these claims can be misleading; reapply often regardless of these labels. About That White Sheen... Mineral sunscreens are the safer choice, but they can sometimes leave a chalky or white finish, especially on deeper skin tones. That’s where tinted mineral options come in—they blend better with your natural skin tone while still offering great protection. Pro Tips: Apply a nickel-sized amount for your face and at least a shot-glass worth for your body. Reapply every 2 hours, especially after swimming or sweating. Don’t Forget Aftercare! Even with the best sunscreen, your skin can still feel dry or sensitive after sun exposure. A soothing, aloe-based lotion can help rehydrate and calm the skin. Here are two gentle after-sun favorites from my dispensary: Badger Unscented Aloe Vera Gel – Pure, cooling, and fragrance-free Alba Botanica After Sun Lotion – 85% aloe vera with a lightweight feel Wishing you sunshine, safe skin and a beautiful summer! -Kathrine Alsop, ND, MS
