5 more items in Benefits of MagnesiumMagnesium Magnesium is a key mineral for an array of essential cell activities and is a component of bones, where about 60% of our magnesium is stored. Many whole foods such as nuts, grains, legumes and vegetables are good sources of magnesium. However, due to soil-depleting farming practices, food sources are often not as rich in magnesium as they had been in the past. Coffee, alcohol and environmental chemicals deplete magnesium and can lead to deficiency for many people. If you choose to supplement magnesium, what is the best form? The answer depends on the organ system you are supporting. Your choices are many but the most common are magnesium(mg)-citrate, mg-glycinate, mg-oxide, mg-malate and mg-bisglycinate chelate. For Your Liver During a cleanse, it is important to support your liver biotransformation process with adequate magnesium because it is a key co-factor. Any form that you can digest is fine. If you experience loose stools with mg-citrate or mg-oxide, try a different form such as mg-malate or mg-bisglycinate. For Bowel Movements Mg-citrate helps the colon relax and draws water into the large intestines to soften the stool making it easier to pass. The big challenge is to discover how much mg-citrate you need to experience 2-3 healthy bowel movements per day. You may be able to take it just at night or you may need to divide the dose and take half before bed and half mid-morning. Mg-oxide is another form that can help hydrate the stool and treat constipation. For Headaches and Migraines Mg-glycine may be the best form for headaches due to the relaxing properties of glycine. For Sleep Mg-glycine is a helpful addition to a sleep support plan because it is relaxing, calming and reduces anxiety. Magnesium is an important co-factor in maintaining the relaxing neurotransmitter GABA. For Your Bones If you take magnesium for bone health you are looking for the most absorbable form for you. Chelates, such as mg-bisglycinate chelate can be very effective. Mg-malate is also highly absorbable and generally less expensive.

View protocolFiber

Fiber, crucial for healthy gut flora. Goal of 25 grams per day from food and supplements. Notes on products: - Whole Fiber Fusion, I have used this product for years for good results. I also take some if my BM is not super healthy as happens with travel or not staying well hydrated. - Cellulose Fiber, careful, this can be constipating, I like to mix ½ to 1 tablespoon with a heaping tablespoon of Whole Fiber Fusion. Experiment to create the right ratio for you. Adding some of this product can significantly increase fiber without feeling more full. - Resistant starch, great beneficial gut food! I ave found this product to be keto-friendly even though it does have a significant amount of carbs.
