ADHD support protocol

This ADHD Support Protocol combines three complementary supplements targeting neuroinflammation, neurotransmitter function, and cognitive performance: Curcumin Phytosome (Meriva®) — 300 mg/day (2 capsules once daily): A bioavailable turmeric extract with neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Preclinical data suggest curcumin may reduce hyperactive and anxious behavior and improve spatial memory. Curcumin supplementation has shown improvements in working memory, attention, and mood in broader cognitive studies, particularly with enhanced-bioavailability formulations. Omega-3 Fish Oil (EPA + DHA) — 1,000 mg/day (1 softgel twice daily): Omega-3 supplementation produces a modest but statistically significant improvement in ADHD symptoms, particularly hyperactivity-impulsivity. Longer treatment durations (≥4 months) appear more effective. Magnesium Glycinate — 240 mg/day (2 capsules at bedtime): Children and adults with ADHD frequently demonstrate magnesium deficiency. An RCT of combined vitamin D and magnesium supplementation showed significant improvements in emotional regulation, conduct, and total behavioral difficulties. Magnesium also supports sleep quality, which is commonly disrupted in ADHD. Additional Recommendations to Consider Zinc supplementation (15–30 mg/day): Zinc deficiency is common in ADHD populations, and supplementation may enhance stimulant medication efficacy. Iron status assessment: Serum ferritin should be checked, as iron deficiency (even without anemia) is associated with attentional deficits in ADHD. Supplementation is indicated when deficiency is confirmed. Vitamin D (2,000–4,000 IU/day): Co-supplementation with magnesium showed synergistic benefits, and vitamin D ranked among the most effective antioxidant agents for ADHD symptom improvement. Important Caveats These supplements are intended as adjunctive support, not replacements for first-line ADHD treatments (behavioral therapy, stimulant or non-stimulant medications).
