Vitamin D Babies/Kids
Vitamin D for Babies/Toddlers. •<1year: 400-1000IU •1-8 years: 600-1,000IU •>9 years: 1,500-2,000IU •Vitamin D deficiency is common. If possible, get children tested. Higher doses may be necessary for deficiency. From this review article: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3761874/ Vitamin D Supplementation During Pregnancy and Lactation The 25(OH)D passes from the placenta into the bloodstream of the fetus. Because the half-life for 25(OH)D is approximately 2 to 3 weeks, the infant can remain vitamin D sufficient for several weeks after birth, as long as the mother is vitamin D sufficient. 2 In a study of 40 mostly black pregnant women who were documented to be ingesting approximately 600 IU of vitamin D a day, at the time that they gave birth, 76% were vitamin D deficient as defined by the IOM cutoff value of a 25(OH)D level less than 20 ng/mL. 259 Eighty-one percent of their newborns were vitamin D deficient. 259 Maternal supplementation with 2000 and 4000 IU/d of vitamin D during pregnancy improved the maternal/neonatal vitamin D status. 256 None of the pregnant women developed significant changes in their serum calcium or 24-hour urine calcium levels. Evidence of risk reduction in infection, preterm labor, and preterm birth was suggestive, requiring additional studies powered for these end points. 260 Human breast milk and unfortified cow’s milk have little vitamin D. 7 , 260 , 261 Only after lactating women were given 4000 to 6000 IU/d of vitamin D was enough vitamin D transferred in breast milk to satisfy the infant’s requirement. 259 – 261

Babies 2020
Here are my recommendations for babies. Either of the products would be fine, I mix in expressed milk or formula or just put on the baby's tongue before a feeding. Just options! Let me know if you have questions! The Metakids seems to create less gas in my kiddos and easier to dispense a few drops on the tongue at a time! Start with a few drops and work up as tolerated. I've also had good success with elimination diets for mom. Colicky baby can also be from poor latch or even if there is a fast let down and baby has trouble keeping up, that can cause some reflux symptoms. Lastly chiropractic care has been super helpful or even Osteopathic Manipulation Treatment (OMT) from a DO physician that is good with babies. Sometimes they just need a tiny adjustment to help the brain and digestive system talk to each other better. Hope things start to improve. Here are some products to consider to support balancing the immune system with eczema. The immune system starts in the gut which is why probiotics are so important. It includes a lot of other great information on immune support, some immune stimulants are cautioned in eczema because they can cause flare ups if over stimulating the immune system.
