Rezilir Brain: Ketosis Support

Medium chain triglycerides / MCT oil can be a useful tool when trying to achieve nutritional ketosis. It gives the liver a type of fat that is converted to ketones more readily than most dietary fats. MCT oil can help raise beta-hydroxybutyrate, or BHB, which is the ketone we measure in blood. The primary goal is to get the dietary foundations in place. A brain healthy diet includes nutritious whole foods such as non-starchy vegetables, high quality protein and healthy fats to meet your dietary needs. If trying to achieve nutritional ketosis, you will be avoiding sugar, grains, processed foods, starchy vegetables and most fruit. You cannot supplement your way out of a poor diet, and a higher ketone reading for a few hours does not tell us that your overall eating pattern is providing the nutrients needed for health. We use supplements to support the plan, then look at how your body is responding while tweaking the KetoFlex 12/3 diet so it evolves as you progress through the recommended treatment plan. Not everyone is a candidate for certain diets and supplements. For example, people who carry a copy of the ApoE4 gene have to eat a diet that is lower in saturated fat providing 10% or less of calories from saturated fat per day. This is because of genetic differences in fat metabolism. Since MCT oil is a saturated fat, people with ApoE 4 genetics should not consume large amounts of MCT oil. Some people may be more sensitive to an MCT oil supplement and find MCT oil causes them GI distress or loose stools.
