Restful Sleeping - finally

3 more items in Restful Sleeping - finallyHello there, Sleep hygiene is also very important here and reducing anxiety around sleeping. Go to bed and wake up at the same time each day. Approximately: 10pm lights out & 6:30-7:00am out of bed. DO NOT hit snooze. Turn your lights one and get out of bed immediately. Go outside and get some fresh air and sun on your face (yes, even if it's cloudy). "I didn't sleep well", "I never sleep", "I'm not a good sleeper", etc are NO LONGER in your vocabulary. Your brain and body listen to ever word you say. From now on you say, "My body knows exactly how much rest it needs" and "I trust my body to rest when it needs it." If you must, "I have had trouble sleeping in the past." Take the energy out of focusing on your sleep so much. Cut the sleep spiraling out! You don't have to fall asleep to rest. If you are laying there relaxed and calm your body is still getting rest. Don't worry, your body knows what it needs. Relax your face, eyes, jaw, forehead, temples, pack of your neck, and shoulders. Us this sleep hypnosis every night for at least a week. Some of us wake up because of unstable blood sugar levels. Do your best to eat a balanced meal for dinner by 6:30pm. If you still feel you are waking up because of low blood sugar eat about 30 minutes before bed a small amount of balanced protein, healthy fats, and fiber, like apple slices with peanut butter, Greek yogurt with berries and nuts, a hard-boiled egg, or veggies with hummus. Mind going a million miles per hour? Do a brain dump! Have a journal or piece of paper and pen you keep next to the bed. Write down all your to-dos and anything that's on your mind. Dump it out all on the page and then go to bed. If you wake up in the middle of the night brain dump again (without the light on). Pro tip: If you want to take this one step further and organize the next day, write the 3-4 things (no more than that!) you will focus on for the next day. Yes, you can do more but after you finish these key 3-4 things. As always, if you have questions, feel free to reach out to me for a consultation.
