View protocolDecrease Cortisol Production

These supplements can help decrease your sheer production of cortisol, which may be hindering your weight loss. Cortisol is our fight or flight hormone that should be released when we need it - like, to run away from a tiger in the woods. Unfortunately, today, we often don't need this time of hormonal response, especially when we're stressed over things that don't allow us to expend energy...like, being stuck in traffic, getting annoyed at work, or feeling pressure at home. These supplements are low-risk treatments, where they are water-soluble vitamins and pose little risk if you, indeed, do not have high cortisol levels. Not sure if you have high cortisol levels? This quiz can help point you in the direction of whether you should start vitamin supplements and check with your physician. https://take.quiz-maker.com/QLO2X7Z3C Interpreting your results: -5 or more of these symptoms: Chances are that you are high in cortisol. Follow the suggestions in the Metabolism and Hormones video. -3 or 4: You may need to address this hormone imbalance. -Fewer than 3 or unsure: You could ask your physician to test your blood (serum) cortisol level in the morning, before 9am. ideally, the level should be 10 to 15 mcg/dL. You can also test yourself at home with salivary cortisol levels at four points throughout the day, in a method called the diurnal cortisol panel. Often, diurnal cortisol levels are more helpful because you can monitor your cortisol over the course of a day, rather than basing your findings on a single data point of a blood test. Remember, all our hormones are interconnected! This is just one piece of information that brings you closer to observing yourself and your health. Often, women have high and low cortisol levels intertwined. Stress and the release of glucocorticoids (like cortisol) are inextricably linked, and often your stress response does more harm than good. When we are startled or feel threatened, an ancient communication system responds, and hormones from the brain tell the adrenal glands to start pumping more cortisol. This pumps glucose into your bloodstream (you need energy, after all, to outrun that tiger) and raises your blood pressure, so plenty of fresh oxygen gets to your brain so you can think clearly.
View protocolMigraine relief

Although migraines are influenced by many factors, dietary elements may not only trigger a reaction, but help prevent them from occurring. The supplements included here are for filling in nutrient gaps for those who suffer from migraines. I suggest CoQ10 one capsule per day, 200mg, and magnesium twice daily (for a total of 340mg/d) unless you're eating a lot of foods with magnesium. Please see the attached Migraine and Nutrition handout attached. For more information and for individual counseling, please feel free to contact me.
