  • Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators (SPM) Recommendation

Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators (SPM) Recommendation product 1

What Are Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators? SPMs are lipid-based signaling molecules that help coordinate inflammatory resolution. Many are produced through pathways involving the omega-3 fatty acids EPA, or eicosapentaenoic acid, and DHA, or docosahexaenoic acid. Other fatty-acid pathways also produce pro-resolving mediators. The important distinction is between the starting materials and the signals the body makes from them. Having EPA and DHA available does not mean that every downstream resolution process will function identically in every person. Resolvins, Protectins, and Maresins: Related Signaling Families Resolvins, protectins, and maresins are families of SPMs studied for their roles in regulating immune responses. EPA contributes to E-series resolvin pathways; DHA contributes to D-series resolvins, protectins, and maresins. Research describes overlapping actions, including regulation of immune-cell recruitment and support for clearance of dying cells. These families should not be understood as separate products with guaranteed benefits for pain or joint repair. [3] How Immune Cells Clear Damaged Cells and Debris Macrophages help clear dying cells and cellular debris by engulfing them. The removal of cells undergoing programmed cell death is called efferocytosis . SPM signaling can promote this cleanup activity in experimental research. Clearing debris helps create conditions associated with resolution and repair. However, describing this biological role does not establish that an oral supplement rebuilds cartilage, reverses osteoarthritis, or restores a damaged joint. [3] Biomega-SPM™ Delivers an industry-leading 500 μg/serving of SPM precursors—specific omega-3 metabolites that serve as the foundational building blocks for Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators (SPMs) produced naturally by the body. Utilizing a proprietary supercritical extraction with 8-stream fractionation, our comprehensive formula features 7 identified precursors to SPMs that support the body's resolution phase in the inflammatory cascade.* This advanced approach promotes joint and muscular comfort, healthy tissue repair, and balanced immune and inflammatory support*—all in an easy-to-take softgel designed for optimal patient compliance. Healthy aging means staying connected to the moments that matter: a walk with someone you love, time with your grandchildren, or enjoying a favorite hobby. My Inflammaging Protection protocol brings together Tru Niagen for NAD+ support and fatty15™ Advanced Formula Extra Strength, which supplies C15:0, a fatty acid being studied for its potential to support cell membrane resilience and metabolic health. I personally use both supplements. Research on C15:0’s broader benefits is still developing, so I view these supplements as supporting tools alongside nourishing food, regular movement, restorative sleep, and individualized care—not as a promise to stop aging or eliminate inflammation. To explore the NAD+ and inflammation connection, read my article, Tru Niagen, Inflammaging, and More Healthy Days Ahead . Before starting this protocol, let’s review your health history and current supplements or prescribed therapies so your choices fit your needs and goals. All the best, Dr. Karl R.O.S. If you have been dealing with digestive complaints, blood sugar swings, stubborn weight challenges, inflammation, or metabolic issues that do not seem to improve by surface-level approaches alone, it may be time to take a closer look at your gut. My gut healing and metabolic optimization protocols are designed to help support the health of your intestinal lining, your microbiome, and the metabolic signals that influence energy, cravings, inflammation, and long-term wellness. Let me explain. A healthy gut does much more than digest food. Your gut helps regulate inflammation, supports nutrient absorption, influences immune function, and plays an important role in metabolic health. When the gut lining is irritated and the microbiome is out of balance, it can affect how well your body responds to food, stress, and even your efforts to improve weight and blood sugar control. That is why these protocols focus on targeted nutritional support using Pendulum live Akkermansia muciniphila , the polyphenols Akkermansia thrives on, and carefully selected symbiotic probiotic species and fibers that help create a healthier internal environment. This combination may help support the gut barrier, encourage microbial balance, and promote a stronger foundation for metabolic function. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I use nutrition in a more thoughtful and personalized way. These protocols are meant to support the beneficial organisms your body depends on while also supplying the fibers and plant compounds that help them do their job more effectively. The goal is not simply symptom management. The goal is to look deeper, support root-cause physiology, and help your body move toward better balance. These protocols may be appropriate for people who are looking for support with: Bloating, irregular digestion, or gut discomfort Blood sugar imbalance or insulin resistance concerns Weight management challenges Inflammation-related health concerns Metabolic slowdown, low energy, or cravings Whole-person support as part of a broader Functional Medicine and Nutrition plan As with the care I provide in my office, this approach is focused on education, personalized care, and practical strategies that may help support your body’s ability to heal and regulate more effectively. The more you know about how your body works, the better you can take care of yourself. If you are ready to take a closer look at how your gut may be influencing your metabolic health, these protocols can be an important part of a more complete, patient-centered plan to help you Reclaim Your Life. Yours in Health, Dr. Karl R.O.S. Johnson, DC, CFMC, FIFHI
