Sleep Support

3 more items in Sleep SupportEach of these supplements has been shown to improve aspects of sleep. Melatonin can help you re-establish a normal circadian rhythm and exert a sedative-like effect. Starting with a low dosage is recommended to assess the effect. Valerian Root has been shown to improve sleep quality in those who suffer from insomnia. Magnesium is crucial for nervous system function and maintaining a calm mood. I put both magnesium threonate and magnesium glycinate in here so you could choose between the two (you don't need both of them). Magnesium threonate is a lot more expensive than glycinate but both have great benefits for sleep and both will absorb equally well. L-Theanine will provide a sense of calm during the day and allow you to fall asleep more easily if taken at night. Myo-inositol has been shown to improve sleep onset and sleep quality which may stem from it's relationship with serotonin. Please consult with your physician before taking inositol if you are currently on medication for depression or anxiety. Ashwagandha can help you manage and maintain healthier cortisol levels. High nighttime cortisol can prevent the "wind down" process and delay sleep onset. DISCLAIMER : Andres Vargas is not a physician, registered dietitian, or medical professional. Health Basics

3 more items in Health BasicsThis protocol includes 5 foundational supplements to help support a healthy body. These vitamins and minerals are among the most common deficiencies so supplementing with these nutrients will help to sure up any gaps in your health! B Complex : Many people have trouble methylating/activating the b vitamins that are found in fortified foods. As a result, insufficiencies in b vitamins can lead to poor energy production, sleep disturbances, and possibly depression/anxiety. A methylated b complex can help to maintain optimal levels in the body. Vitamin D : It's estimated that vitamin d controls the expression of over 1000 genes in the body. Without it, immune health, bone mineral density, blood glucose control, and even muscle growth can be compromised. Most people don't get enough direct sunlight which is the primary source of vitamin d in humans. As such, supplementation is important for most people. Magnesium : Diets high in whole, minimally processed foods can deliver a decent amount of magnesium. However, soil depletion and modern eating habits have decreased the amount of magnesium most people get. Given it's importance for sleep, neurological health, and muscle contraction, maintaining optimal magnesium levels in the body is crucial. Zinc : Much like magnesium, Diets high in whole, minimally processed foods can deliver a decent amount of Zinc, but the same issues plaguing modern diets apply here too. Zinc plays an important role in immune health and metabolism helping you remain healthy and allowing thyroid hormone to function properly. Omega 3's : High intake of EPA and DHA has been shown to improve heart health and brain function as well as decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease and neurodegenerative diseases. It has even been shown to improve body composition and strength! Modern diets are typically low in EPA and DHA but if you happen to eat 3+ servings of fatty fish per week, then you may not need to supplement. An omega 3 blood test can let you know. Multivitamin : You can think of this as an insurance policy to help you obtain many important nutrients that you may not get through your diet. If you have a well balanced, nutrient dense diet then you may not need to take a multivitamin. You can also take it every other day or twice a week to sure up any holes in your diet.
