"Why it is here: L-theanine, 100 mg per capsule. Begin one product from this protocol at a time, not several. How to take: 1 capsule twice a day (200 mg a day), with water; up to 2 capsules twice a day, the top of the label's range. Take no more than twice daily. Published evidence: A 2026 meta-analysis of 31 randomized trials found a reliable short-term benefit on attention and a modest effect on acute stress that was largely driven by higher-risk studies; effects on anxiety were inconsistent and not significant. No serious adverse events were reported in that review. Clinical experience (observation): I use L-theanine daily for general calm or as needed before a specific stressor, and have found that it smooths the edge of caffeine and balances neurotransmitters. Calming effect within 20 minutes. Caution: Cortisol Manager also contains L-theanine, in an amount its label does not give; count both. Do not pair the two unless a clinician directs it. Do not use it to justify excess caffeine. Label: if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking prescription drugs, consult your healthcare professional prior to use. Review: After 7 to 14 days, review before adding more."

"Why it is here: A blend. Each capsule, half of the label's 2-capsule serving, holds 250 mg of an ashwagandha (Sensoril®) and L-theanine blend, 225 mg of a magnolia bark and epimedium blend, and 50 mg of phosphatidylserine. The label does not give the amount of each ingredient within a blend. Begin one product from this protocol at a time, not several. How to take: 1 capsule before bedtime, with water. The label allows 2 capsules during times of high stress and says the product is for every night use. Clinical experience (observation): I suggest 1 capsule nightly, ongoing, increasing to 2 at times of high stress. Caution: Label: do not use if you are pregnant or nursing; if you are taking any medications, consult a healthcare professional before use; individuals with diabetes should monitor blood glucose levels closely while taking this product. This product already contains L-theanine and ashwagandha. The L-Theanine product also contains L-theanine, and Daily Stress Formula also contains ashwagandha: count both, and do not pair this product with either unless a clinician directs it. Review: After 7 to 14 days, review before adding more."

"Why it is here: B vitamins (16.7 mg of B6 per 3 capsules), vitamin C, magnesium, L-tyrosine, and six herbs, including ashwagandha. Begin one product from this protocol at a time, not several. How to take: 1 capsule three times a day, with or between meals. Published evidence: B vitamins: in a 2019 meta-analysis of randomized trials, supplementation modestly benefited stress but showed no effect on anxiety. Clinical experience (observation): I prefer adaptogens and multivitamin and mineral formulations to help an individual manage the effects of stress and provide the raw materials needed to recover stress-related cellular pathways. Caution: Label: not in pregnancy or lactation. Eleuthero: palpitations, tachycardia, or hypertension in cardiovascular disorders; may interact with blood thinners. Ashwagandha: not with immunosuppressants. Possible contraindication with benzodiazepines or CNS depressants. Chamomile: not with Asteraceae sensitivity. Rarely: nausea, headache, or fatigue. Cortisol Manager also has ashwagandha: count both; do not pair the two unless a clinician directs it. Count B6 from all supplements. Review: After 7 to 14 days, review before adding more."
