It can be helpful to keep these on hand because they are most effective when started immediately at the start of acute illness. Resource: I ndependent Medical Alliance (IMA) & Fullscript resources, other dosing information information available on IMA. Optionally: Multi-ingredient options, like Codeage Liposomal Vitamin C + or Quicksilver Immune Charge + , can replace several other options. Disclaimer : This is for educational purposes, speak with your healthcare provider to determine the best options for you. Acute Immune Support (Adult): Nasal Spray -Saline irrigation can help flush mucus, allergens, and can help clear viral particles from the nose. Vitamin D (with food) -In acute stages some suggestions include initial larger dose, then daily dose supplements. Vitamin D deficiency is common and is associated with an increased risk of infection and worse outcomes from infection. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin; it is generally suggested to take with food for improved absorption. Monitoring labs is suggested if taking long-term to maintain levels in the optimal range (often considered 50-80 ng/ml). Vitamin D should be taken with food (fats) to absorb it. Excessive vitamin D dosing can cause toxicity. Liposomal Vitamin C - Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immune-enhancing properties. The liposomal form has improved absorption and able to reach higher concentration in your cells, while remaining more gentle on your stomach when you need intensive short-term support. On empty stomach with a glass of water for optimal absorption. Zinc (with food) - Long-term dosing over 30 mg needs consideration of copper status and may need a supplement with balanced zinc and copper (this dose is 15 mg). Take with food to avoid nausea. Lozenge form is helpful to bathe the mouth and throat in zinc, which is where respiratory viruses are starting and replicating. Don't chew, instead dissolve in mouth several times a day (up to 2-4 depending on healthcare provider instruction). Zinc inhibits viral replication, provides immune response modulation, starting early in the illness (24-48 hours of onset) can significantly reduce durations and severity of acute upper respiratory infections. Melatonin -1-6 mg nightly, start with 1 mg and increase as tolerated, causes drowsiness. It has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immunomodulating, and metabolic effects that are likely important in the mitigation of Covid-19, influenza, and RSV infections. Elderberry - contains many flavanols and vitamins. Has an antiviral effect that can reduce severity and symptoms when started at onset of illness. The antioxidants help support immune modulation. *Recommend to avoid during pregnancy due to insufficient data, use caution with active autoimmune disorders. ------------------- Additional Options: UltraFlora Spectrum Probiotic: This is one of the few probiotics containing Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium and Saccharomyces boulardii. Together these can help reduce the incidence of antibiotic-associated diarrhea significantly. As well as help protect against opportunistic pathogens, like C. diff, protect gut lining, and preserves microbial diversity. It is suggested to take 1 capsule daily, at least 2 to 3 hours apart from any oral antibiotic dose, with meals, starting within the first 24 to 48 hours of starting antibiotic therapy, as early initiation significantly improves efficacy. It may be beneficial to continue through the entire course of antibiotics plus another 2 weeks to more completely support microbiome restoration. NEEDED Hydration Support: Electrolytes, as needed. * Consult your doctor if you have autoimmune disease, especially with use of elderberry. Author of this protocol suggests it is likely safe with autoimmune disease if used for less than 2 weeks. I choose to use it despite autoimmune disease but this should be a personal decision made with your healthcare provider. * Disclaimer : This is not medical advice, this is educational advice sharing quality supplement options for a protocol from a medical website. Always consult with your primary provider and/or pharmacist to ensure that supplements are safe for your health conditions, including pregnancy, and to ensure that they do not interact with your other medications or supplements.

These supplements all affect many health pathways to support health, longevity, and well-being from multiple angles. Magnesium is an essential mineral involved in hundreds of enzymatic reactions throughout the body. Most Americans do not consistently meet recommended magnesium intake through food alone. Here are the many benefits of magnesium: Supports Energy Production and Mitochondrial Function Supports Sleep Supports the Stress Response Mood Support: Low levels of magnesium have been linked to depression, and supplementation has shown improvement in mood symptoms in some trials Support Bone Health Supports Muscle and Nerve Function Supports Cardiovascular function including contributing to normal blood pressure and heart rhythm Brain Function: Magnesium is needed for optimal brain function through nerve signaling and synaptic function. Supports Healthy Blood Sugar and Insulin Function Supporting Immune Function and Regulating Inflammation Supports Regularity (certain forms: especially magnesium citrate and oxide) Vitamin D is another critical micronutrient for whole body function and well-being that many US adults are deficient in. Vitamin D can support these areas: Supports Bone Health by helping the body absorb calcium and is essential for maintaining healthy bones. Immune Function : plays an important role in immune regulation and healthy immune responses. Supports a Healthy Inflammatory REsponse:: Vitamin D helps regulation immune and inflammatory pathways. Mood & Mental Health: Low vitamin D status has been associated with depression, and supplementation may support mood. Muscle Function: Supports muscle strength and physical function, which is increasingly important with age. Supports Brain Health: Vitamin D is involved in normal brain function and low vitamin D status has been associated with cognitive decline and dementia. Metabolic Health: Plays a role in insulin sensitivity and blood sugar control. Can Support Gut and Brain Barrier Health Lab testing can help determine whether supplementation is needed and guide an appropriate dose. Omega 3: Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA, are important components of cell membranes and play roles in cardiovascular, brain, eye, and inflammatory health. Fatty fish are a primary dietary source, and supplement quality matters because omega-3 oils are susceptible to oxidation. Omega 3's can support: Cardiovascular Health: Can lower triglycerides and may support blood pressure and other cardiovascular risk factors. Brain Health: DHA, one of the main omega-3 fats, is an important part of brain cell membranes and helps brain cells communicate. Higher omega-3 intake has been linked with better cognitive health. Healthy Inflammatory Response: EPA and DHA are involved in pathways that help regulate inflammation. Mood Support: Some studies suggest EPA-rich omega-3 supplementation may help depressive symptoms in certain individuals. Eye Health: DHA is an important structural component of the retina. Pregnancy & Infant Development: DHA is important for fetal and infant brain and eye development. Joint Health: Omega-3s may help support joint comfort and inflammation. Safety: Omega-3 supplements can affect platelet function and, at higher doses, may increase the risk of atrial fibrillation in some people. If you take blood thinner, have a bleeding disorder, or are preparing for surgery, discuss supplementation with your healthcare provider. Curcumin: Curcumin is the main active compound in turmeric and has been studied for its effects on inflammation, oxidative stress, joint health, metabolic health, mood, and brain function. Because standard curcumin is poorly absorbed, formulation can make a significant difference. Common doses used in research are between 500-3,000 mg a day: Curcumin may support: Healthy Inflammatory Response & Pain Joint Comfort & Mobility Antioxidant Activity Healthy Blood Sugar & Insulin Function Cardiovascular Health Mood Support: Some studies suggest curcumin may help improve symptoms of depression and anxiety. Gut Health: Curcumin is being studied for possible effects on intestinal inflammation and gut-barrier function. Brain Health: Curcumin is being studied for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in the brain and for possible effects on memory and cognition. Emerging research: Curcumin is also being studied for its effects on brain amyloid-related pathways, liver function, and cancer biology. B-Complex: B vitamins work together to support energy production, brain and nerve function, red blood cell formation, methylation, and homocysteine metabolism. B12, B6, and folate are especially important for keeping homocysteine in a healthy range. Elevated homocysteine has been associated with cardiovascular and cognitive risk. This B-complex provides active forms of several B vitamins. Some people may also need additional targeted B12 or folate depending on diet, medications, lab results, absorption, or individual needs. B vitamins may support: Energy Production: Help convert food into usable energy. Brain & Nervous System Function: B vitamins are important for normal nerve signaling and brain function. Methylation & Homocysteine Metabolism: Folate, B12, and B6 help process homocysteine and support normal methylation pathways. Red Blood Cell Formation: Folate, B12, and B6 are involved in healthy blood-cell production. Mood & Neurotransmitter Function: Several B vitamins participate in pathways involved in neurotransmitter production and mood regulation. Healthy Pregnancy & Fetal Development: Folate is especially important before and during pregnancy for normal fetal development. Migraine Support: Riboflavin (B2), particularly at studied therapeutic doses, may help reduce migraine frequency in some people. Testing matters: A serum B12 level in range does not rule out B12 deficiency and B12 supplementation can raise serum B12 levels, so markers such as methylmalonic acid (MMA) and homocysteine may sometimes provide additional information about B12 status. People who eat little or no animal food are at increased risk for B12 deficiency, deficiency is also more common with aging. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Others to Consider: Creatine: Creatine is another supplement to consider for longevity due to its benefit for muscle strength and brain health , both of which are important for quality of life and longevity. ____ Disclaimer: This is not medical advice. Resource: This video by Laurie Mischley, ND, PhD, MPH, Parkinson's expert and researcher, is a great resource and is the basis of most of this Parkinson's Disease Supplement Support Guide. Laurie Mischley's studies showed these supplements are associated with better PD outcome over time; not everyone needs every supplement. According to Laurie Mischley, the goal is for disease modification and to slow modification over time. Since these supplements are meant to work in the long run, versus symptom management alone, so you may not feel major changes but may see the difference over time with a symptom tracker.
