Don't forget the basics for Winter Wellness! Rest. This often is SO overlooked! When you sleep your immune cells go into the lymphatic system to clean it out. The immune system is energy-dependent, so if you aren't sleeping well then your immune system isn’t going to be functioning well. Hydration. Drink hydrating fluids (herbal teas, water infusions, adding sea salt to your water) and eat foods that contain water (lots of veggies and fruit are rich in fluids.) A good starting point it to either aim for 64 fluid oz or half of your weight in oz not to exceed 100 0z a day (ie you weigh 150 then drink 75 oz). Eating a whole food diet and reducing sugar and alcohol. Limiting stress or actively working on our stress levels. When we are stuck in fear/fight/flight mode our body is not able to be working on detoxing well. Please be mindful to do things that relax you and bring you joy...when you do...you are literally boosting your immune system! You'll notice there are a lot of supplements below. That's because I've added different types of supplements (powdered or capsule forms) so that you can choose what works best for you. For Winter Wellness there are some things I take on a more regular basis Vit C- important for immune system Magnesium- magnesium is an important cofactor for raising vitamin D levels and helping with stress Vitamin A- antiviral...Vitamin A helps maintain your bodies natural defenses including the mucosal barriers in the eyes, lung and gut. It is also involved in the production and function of the White Blood Cells which help capture bacteria and other pathogens from your bloodstream. Probiotics- enhance immune function and help with healthy gut. The one I recommend is a colanzing probiotic whereas most probiotics is transient B12- plays a crucial role in the proper functioning of immune system These other things are things that I keep on hand for when I feel like I am coming down with something, or if I'm eating something that doesn't sit well. This would only be taken on a short term basis but are good to keep in stock! Bio-botanical throat spray- the nasal/throat region is a common area of infection for upper respiratory disorders. This supports the upper respiratory system. Zinc- helps the immune system fight off invading bacteria and viruses. I have both a chewable tablet, and zinc lozenge recommendation below. Charcoal/GI defense- I use this if I eat something that upsets my stomach or if I'm coming down with a stomach virus. It can help with gas and bloating (take 1-2 hours away from food, supplements and medications) Gluten defense- reduces the level of reactive gliadin and gluten proteins in a meal (this is for those who are sensitive to gluten and dairy and yet may be celebrating holidays where those foods may accidentally or intentionally be consumed. It helps with symptoms but should not be used as a reason to eat these food often. Other things I plan to have on hand that are not available on this dispensary is Lugols iodine which is anti-viral. You can order this on Amazon (on of the only supplements I recommend from Amazon!) IF YOU HAVE ANY THYROID CONDITION DO NOT TAKE IODINE WITHOUT CLEARING IT WITH YOUR HEALTH PRACTITIONER! You can do a sinus rinse with iodine in it to clean out your sinuses. For an iodine nasal rinse you would prepare your neti pot as normal and then add 1 drop of iodine. You can also put iodine directly on your tonsils or on the outer part of your throat (Iodine stains so be careful with this!) Iodine kills things within about 15-30 seconds of contact.

Winter time is often a time with extra sweets, lack of sunshine, and less fresh food available. To help your children stay healthy through the holidays and beyond I recommend these supplements. Especially good right before and right after indulging in all the yummy treats during the holidays. Of course a whole food diet is crucial, but I find during the winter extra support may be needed so this can help boost nutrition for children for a few months.

Congrats! You have a precious new being in your life! Most people focus on being healthy during pregnancy, but with the demands of a newborn struggle to get enough nutriton in. This lack of nutrition can lead to more fatigue, increased likelihood of getting sick, as well as more mood swings (PPD can hit anyone so please reach out to your healthcare provider if you are struggling!) There are several things you can do to support your health. 1. Drink plenty of hydrating fluids. Nettle tea, water, bone broth, herbal teas. Aim for 1/2 of your body weight in oz PLUS an additional 30ish oz a day if you are nursing. 2. Increase your veggie intake. Aim for 4-6 cups a day. Lightly cooked veggies are easier for your body to digest then raw foods, so aim to have at least 1/2 of your veggies cooked. 3. Eat every 3ish hours. Most moms of little ones start to crave sugar for the quick burst of energy. With a young baby you probably aren't getting a lot of sleep and your body is still repairing itself after birth. If you are nursing your body is using more energy. Try and have some well balanced healthy snacks on hand. Things like jerky, apples and cheese, boiled eggs and some crackers, avocado "pudding", guacamole and veggies, leftover meat in 3-4 oz servings etc. 4. Supplements. This list of above supplements are things that support your body post pregnancy. Every body is different and has its unique needs so long term I suggest getting a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis so that you can target your needs. But for those who are unable to do that right away the above supplements are things that I find are common needs post pregnancy. The last is a food based source. 1. Nutritional Yeast ( this is the only brand I recommend because they don't fortify it ) This yeast is rich in Vitamin B-6. Vit B 6 is important for mood regulation, promotes brain health, and aids in hemoglobin production (so can help with anemia) among other things. It is also rich in several other B vitamins. You can sprinkle it on food or make a dip with it. 1-2 tablespoons a day is a good amount for most people. 2. Wild caught cod liver - This is rich in Vit D. Its not always available but its one I keep my eye on. I like to mix it with some bone in sardines and some diced chicken and make a "tuna" salad out of it. I don't recommend eating a lot of tuna due to the mercury content but sardines and cod livers have a lot of health benefits. When you are ready to figure out what your unique body needs or work on deeper health issues you may have please feel free to sign up here . For the most accurate results I recommend waiting til 3 months postpartum to complete a hair test. Congratulations again on your new blessing! In Health, Lydia Barrett

Hello to my fellow health enthusiasts! I didn't anticipate having to write this protocol, however as immune supporting things are flying off the shelf I want to make sure you are covered! The most important thing to remember when you are trying to support your immune system are the following: Rest. This often is SO overlooked! When you sleep your immune cells go into the lymphatic system to clean it out. The immune system is energy-dependent, so if you aren't sleeping well then your immune system isn’t going to be functioning well. Hydration. Be drinking half of your weight in oz (ie you weigh 150 then drink 75 oz). Eating a whole food diet and reducing ALL sugar and alcohol. Destressing! When we are stuck in fear/fight/flight mode our body is not able to be working on detoxing well. Please be mindful to do things that relax you and bring you joy...when you do...you are literally boosting your immune system! Get out in the sun to help your vitamin D levels. Added benefit is that walking is an excellent destressor! These things have been flying off the shelves and I know that the dispensary has people working overtime to restock and keep up with shipping. You can pick and choose what is on this protocol to keep on hand...I have 2 whole food vitamin c options as one you can put in liquid and one is a capsule. Since I have kids I like to keep both on hand for myself. I actually normally use a different vitamin C but it's currently backordered at the time I created this. This is not meant to take place of your own personalized protocol, as a best defense is being proactive and knowing what your body needs to be balanced, but it is meant to give an idea of a couple extra things you can have on hand to support yourself or loved ones. Let me know if I can support you at all during this time. It truly isn't a time to panic, but to be smart and proactive. In health, Lydia The following things are things I have on hand for my family. My husband and my son both have issues with their lungs and immunity and so I want to have things on hand to support their system. The following protocol are things are things I have on hand right now. Vit C- important for immune system Selenium- helps protect the body from damage caused by free radicals. Helps defend against viruses. Vitamin E -important co-factor for selenium. deficiencies in either selenium or vitamin D result in increased viral pathogenicity and altered immune response. Magnesium- magnesium is an important co-factor for raising vitamin D levels Vitamin A- anti-viral...Vitamin A helps maintain your bodies natural defenses including the mucosal barriers in the eyes, lung and gut. It is also involved in the production and function of the White Blood Cells which help capture bacteria and other pathogens from your bloodstream. Vitamin D- Vit d deficiency may confer an increased risk of respiratory infections. Bio-botanical throat spray- the nasal/throat region is a common area of infection for upper respiratory disorders. This supports the upper respiratory system. Other things I plan to have on handLugols iodine- anti-viral. You can order this on Amazon (on of the few supplements I recommend from Amazon) you can do a sinus rinse with iodine in it to clean out your sinuses. Iodine kills things within about 15-30 seconds of contact. Actual fish livers- fish livers have a good ratio of vitamin a to d. You can mix them in with other food if you wish.
