Anxiety & Fatigue

Explore thyroid, nutrient, and blood markers that may help investigate anxiety and fatigue.

  • Anxiety & Fatigue Package

This package explores several possible contributors to low energy and persistent fatigue. It includes a complete blood count to check for anemia and other blood cell changes; a comprehensive metabolic panel to assess blood sugar, electrolytes, and kidney and liver markers; and iron, total iron-binding capacity, and ferritin to evaluate iron availability and stores. TSH, free T4, and free T3 assess thyroid function, while vitamin B12, folate, and vitamin D testing look for potential nutrient deficiencies. Cortisol measures a hormone involved in your stress response, but a single result does not measure everyday stress or diagnose “adrenal fatigue.” Collection timing is important, so follow your provider’s instructions. Fatigue has many causes, including sleep problems, medications, and conditions these tests cannot detect.

  • Cortisol

This test measures cortisol, a hormone made by your adrenal glands that helps regulate your stress response, blood pressure, blood sugar, and metabolism. Cortisol normally changes throughout the day, so the timing of your blood draw is important. Testing may help investigate whether your body is producing too little or too much cortisol, but a single blood measurement usually cannot establish a diagnosis.

  • Iron + Total Iron Binding Capacity

This test measures iron in your blood and total iron binding capacity (TIBC), which reflects how much iron your blood can carry using a protein called transferrin. Together, these measurements can help assess whether too little or too much iron is available in your circulation. They can also be used to calculate transferrin saturation—the percentage of available iron-binding sites carrying iron. Testing may help investigate fatigue, weakness, suspected iron deficiency, or possible iron overload.

  • Ferritin

This test measures ferritin, a protein that stores iron in your body. Ferritin helps estimate your iron reserves and can identify low iron stores before anemia develops. Testing may help investigate fatigue, weakness, or suspected iron deficiency, as well as monitor treatment or evaluate possible iron overload. Low ferritin usually indicates depleted iron stores. High ferritin does not always mean you have too much iron—it can also rise with inflammation, infection, liver disease, and other conditions. Because inflammation can raise ferritin, a normal or elevated result does not always rule out iron deficiency.

  • Vitamin B12

This test measures vitamin B12, a nutrient needed for healthy red blood cells, nerve function, and DNA production. Testing may help investigate fatigue, weakness, numbness or tingling, balance problems, or changes in memory and thinking. Low B12 can occur with limited dietary intake, difficulty absorbing nutrients, or certain medications. A deficiency can affect the nervous system even when anemia is not present.

  • Folate

This test measures folate (vitamin B9), a nutrient your body needs to make DNA, support cell growth, and produce healthy red blood cells. Testing may help investigate fatigue, weakness, or anemia involving unusually large red blood cells. Low folate can occur with inadequate dietary intake, difficulty absorbing nutrients, heavy alcohol use, or certain medications. Recent meals and supplements can affect blood folate levels, so follow the laboratory’s preparation instructions.
